IT'S BLASPHEMER'S WEEK, the annual period during which the gods vacation at Mount Olympus and ignore the inconsequential mortals, and it always begins with blood. This year's first victim is a former police officer, murdered while getting butter from his fridge. Now, Virgil Glezos, the city-state's first detective on his first case, must track the killer by inventing techniques that combine magic and technology. He is aided by a professional dance choreographer, a bio-warfare expert who doesn't want to be there, two police officers who hate him, and a priest who may or may not be trying to kill him. When Virgil uncovers something deeper than a single murder, he must quickly become the wrong person at the right time to stop the greater plot against humanity.

Fun story, very original

This was an amusing story set in a fictional world which is a combination of ancient Greece and modern day - technology has evolved, but the society has not. The author does an admirable job of portraying primitive behavior which we would find unacceptable. The hero is a neurotic and idealistic detective who isn't that great at his job but refuses to give up. Murder, magic and mayhem ensue.

The Author

Robert E. Harpold has been writing stories since he was seven years old, and most of those stories will be shown to no one. In previous jobs, he traveled to Greenland and Antarctica and operated spacecraft. Now he designs spacecraft trajectories, which is his realistic dream job. His dream job is the same as everyone else’s: astronaut. He is married to the most amazing wife, and they have a wonderful daughter and son.

The Narrator

Alden Edgar Lawrence brings stories to life with a rich blend of experience, skill, and passion. Also known as character actor Hap Lawrence, his career spans television, film, and theater, with appearances in well-known productions like N.C.I.S., Carnivalle, Altered States, and Oppenheimer, for which he shares a SAG Award for Best Ensemble. In the late ‘70’s, Alden left university theater teaching and quickly began winning commercials in New York. Soon, a campaign on the west coast as The M&M’s Candy Man revealed film and TV opportunities and weather not to be denied; so New York bags were quickly packed and the move was made west. Now a Hollywood veteran, audiobook narration is Alden’s gymnasium for fondly exercising the reading skills Hap has honed over the years as actor, teacher, and lover of great stories.
