SOMETHING WICKED WAITS. When Robin Griffiths embarks upon the restoration of a stained-glass window in a thirteenth-century church, little does she comprehend the stakes involved. The more slivers of glass she pieces together, the more she realizes things are not what they appear to be in the seemingly cozy hamlet of Bilbury. Piece by piece, sliver by sliver, the window is revealed in all its glory. But will she survive with her sanity intact, or will reawakening the image in the window prove to be her undoing?

A Good Story

This was my first experience with this this author's work. I thought the book was entertaining; however, I felt like the story was more of a psychological thriller with supernatural elements than an actual horror story. Throughout the story I never trusted Robin Griffiths' point-of-view, and she seemed broken by her past which made her perceptions suspect in my mind. I didn't perceive any true horror elements until the very end of the story. I enjoyed Mary Phillips' narration as her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

This really is a quick bite of religious horror. Well written and scary as all get out. Honestly love the fact that a woman wrote this

Engaging from the first few lines

This is the second of this author’s books I have read. I didn’t know if it would live up to ‘Moonlit Path of Madness’, but this beautifully-written, chilling book engaged me from the start. The backdrop of the old church and the gradual piecing together of the shattered stained glass window create a perfect setting for this Gothic Horror tale. The tension builds throughout and leads the reader down an eerie path, via unexpected twists, towards the final tableau. Highly recommended!

Fast story

Not the best, but ok...I learned something new about some things...

The Author

Catherine McCarthy weaves dark tales on an ancient loom from her farmhouse in West Wales. The House at the End of Lacelean Street is her most recent work of long fiction. Other work includes Mosaic, A Moonlit Path of Madness, and The Wolf and the Favour. Her short fiction has been published in various anthologies and magazines, including those by Black Spot Books, Nosetouch Press, Dark Matter Ink, and House of Gamut. In 2020, she won the Aberystwyth University Prize for her short fiction. Time away from the loom is spent hiking the Welsh coast path or huddled in an ancient graveyard reading Dylan Thomas or Poe.

The Cover Artist

A true fan and friend of boogeymen, Devin Forst is a Pennsylvania-born illustrator with a penchant for the dark and unnatural. Devin grew up running through the woods in search of monsters, reading dark fairy tales, and watching a slew of fantastical films such as Labyrinth and Hocus Pocus…so it’s no wonder his work is teeming with wild magic and mystery. Outside of his growing Instagram presence, he has conjured up designs for Creep-O-Rama and Wicked Clothes, illustrated horror tales for Penguin Random House, Macmillan, Illumicrate, & Twisted Retreat, and is the creator of Witches Through History: Grimoire & Oracle Deck, published by Rizzoli. When he's not making art, he can usually be found crouched in a dark room in front of a lit candle. Devin’s greatest wish is that his work might inspire other people to celebrate the magic that can be found all around us, and appreciate the unique beauty in the darker and more mysterious aspects of life. With artwork that's been described as "menacing melancholy," "gothic grit" and "witchery, with attitude," perhaps it can inspire you too to delve a bit deeper into the dark.

The Narrator

Mary has the ear, the musicality, and, the voice for accents. She loves characters, and has a zest for life. Which is why she adores audiobooks because you can get a great story “hands-free,” useful while bringing up four kids. What kind of handbag does she use? Why, a backpack, of course! Because she’s a stylish, versatile, go-anywhere, jam-in-as-much-as-possible kind of gal.
