MIDWESTERN MAYHEM! Remember the '90s? Well...the town of Demise, North Dakota doesn't, and they're living in the year 1997. That's because an alien worm hitched a ride on a comet, crash-landed in the town's trailer park, and is now infecting animals with a memory-loss-inducing bite-and right before Christmas! Now it's up to nineteen-year-old Realene and her best friend Nate to stop the spread and defeat the worms before the entire town loses its mind. The only things standing in the way are their troubled pasts, a doomsday cult, and an army of infected prairie dogs.

"Fast-paced, clever, and nostalgic, Frost Bite single-handedly proves that Angela Sylvaine is a major rising star in the horror genre. This book's even got its own fabulous '90s playlist. Be still, my horror heart." —Gwendolyn Kiste, Lambda Literary and Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Reluctant Immortals and The Rust Maidens

"Frost Bite is propulsive, wonderfully weird and joyously nostalgic. Loved this coming of age, speculative novel!" —Erika T. Wurth, author of White Horse

"Sylvaine unleashes a horde of little horrors on the prairie in this infectiously fun creature feature, oozing with '90s nostalgia and heartland heart." —Brian McAuley, author of Curse of the Reaper

"A gleeful romp through blood-drenched snow. Sylvaine's debut is both bone-chilling and heart-warming at once, equal parts nostalgia and fresh spins on classic tropes-a coming-of-age horror perfect for readers of any age." —Lindy Ryan, Bram Stoker Award-nominated editor of Into the Forest and author of Bless Your Heart

"Frost Bite is a welcome skittering slice of another time. Sylvaine deftly brings grit-your-teeth hopefulness, heart, and a meteorite with a mean streak in this love letter to '80s/'90s creature features. Endearing and beastly." —Hailey Piper, author of A Light Most Hateful and All the Hearts You Eat

"Frost Bite feels like a cult classic creature feature from the dawn of straight-to-video sleaze. It is literally impossible not to have a good time with this book. Read it with a heavy synth score playing in the background." —Max Booth III, Ghoulish Books

"Fun as hell! Frost Bite is a campy, wild blend of Gremlins and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. As always, Angela Sylvaine delivers endless gore and laughs." —Drew Huff, author of Free Burn and The Divine Flesh

"The best books are the ones that offer big concepts without letting them get in the way of the story's heart: its characters. Angela Sylvaine's Frost Bite does exactly that. Sure, there's a crashed meteor and alien-infested prairie dogs causing chaos and memory loss into a North Dakota town's residents, but more importantly, there's Realene struggling to care for her mother with dementia, and Nate reeling from an abusive relationship. Sylvaine pairs these heavy moments with absurd '90s horror pulp to wicked effect. You think you know what you're going to get with Frost Bite? Trust me, it's all that and a bag of chips." —Alex Ebenstein, author of Melon Head Mayhem

"Funny, terrifying, nostalgic, and full of heart, one bite will have you up all night! Frost Bite blends horror and sci-fi with '90s nostalgia to produce a truly unique reading adventure that's both horrifying and fun! This is my most anticipated fall release!" —Meagan Dallner, Books Are Awesome, Parker, Colorado

Dark, delightful and hard to put down

Frost Bite is an absolutely delightful read with the perfect blend of horror, camp, and nostalgia. Sylvaine is a gifted storyteller who captures the complexity of humans in our darkest moments. This is the first of her works that I’ve read and I can’t wait to check out her other books.

Read this book! It’s such a wild ride!

-✨Book Review✨-Rating: ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ +Spiciness: 0/10🌶️Reminded me of: Pure chaos. In the absolute best way. Also SO much 90’s nostalgia! 🤪✵𝚂𝚞𝚖𝚖𝚊𝚛𝚢: It’s 1997, right before Christmas in the town of Demise, North Dakota. A meteor has just crashed landed in the trailer park, and uh oh it appears and alien hitched a ride on this meteor. Now, it’s infecting the local animal populations and spreading to the populace with a memory-loss inducing bite! It’s up to nineteen-year-old Raelene and her best friend Nate to put an end to these worms! 🪱✵𝚃𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚜: What an absolute riot!! This book is so weirdly wonderful, full of chaos, and I am SO here for it!!This is one of those reads I would absolutely adore to see adapted to film. The setting is in a small town in N. Dakota and in the 90’s, nonetheless! Plus, it’s cold as all getup. 🥶The author does a great job setting the stage too, getting you to care about the main characters before the mass mahem descends. Which made things all the better, in my opinion. And oh my goodness does mahem descend!! THIS is the chaos I’ve been looking for in a horror. I absolutely ADORED this ride!Fun Stuff:🦫 Scary Attack Prairie Dogs — I mean, come on, how fun is that?!🍭 Sweets-addicted FMC😎 90’s Nostalgia References!🔥 Pure Unadulterated Chaos🩸 Eat Your Horror Heart Out✵𝚁𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗: Do yourself a favor and read this book!✵✵

Perfect 90s nostalgic winter horror read

Frost Bite is one chilling tale (yes pun intended) that was full of action, adventure, and nostalgic 90s references. And I loved every second of it!Everything happens pretty much in the span of 24 hours. Demise, North Dakota goes from boring small town to quarantined disaster zone after an alien worm infected meteor crashes into the field across from Realene’s trailer park. After oozing into the soil and infecting the hibernating prairie dogs all **** breaks loose as the “infection” quickly spreads turning neighbors against each other and causing widespread memory loss. Throw a doomsday cult into the mix and it’s a quirky recipe for a great winter read. This was a fast-paced page turner and we had a great time reminiscing in our buddy-read chat as we went. Definitely add this one to your winter TBR. Its sequel is set to be released Spring 2025!

With people as scary as the monster!!

I love stories where the people are as scary as the monster. Man, this book blew by, and I enjoyed every bit. So let's get to it...Realene is ready to go to college. She wants to get away and leave where she has grown up. Her dad is dead and gone, her mom has alzheimers. And then the meteorite hits one cold, snowy night. It comes with the white snow, leaking black wormy things. The next day, the prairie dogs are disturbed and the cult in town believes their dark prophecy is underway. I don't want to give too much away, except to say, don't be fooled by the cover, this read doesn't hold back the horrors and deaths. It left me gasping a few times. I also loved the nostalgia 😍

Nostalgic. Gruesome. Cute. Action-Packed!

I buddy read this with a couple friends and we were all excited to crack this open. Light horror that is perfect for the snow season.Set in North Dakota, Frostbite is exactly as advertised if you’ve heard about this one already. It is nostalgia, coming of age, and quirky alien invasion. What sets this apart though is these aliens have cute faces and those faces want to tear you apart.Sylvaine does a great job at developing the characters and I really liked Realene and Nate and their relationship. At times it felt like a will-they won’t-they in the face of defeat but it never came off as distracting or unnecessary.Throw in a crazed group of evangelical zealots who think this invasion is a sign of the rapture and you get a fun blast from the past that is well paced and even better written and I can’t wait to read more from the cheerful goth that is Angela Sylvaine.
