Eden Hills, Minnesota, is famous for two things: its lucrative, ‘80s-inspired fashion mall, and a missing-persons epidemic that has plagued the town’s youth and confounded officials for years. High school junior, Penny, has grown skeptical of the town’s official stance on the disappearances, but has so far kept that to herself. See, she just started her first-ever job at one of the mall’s trendiest stores and doesn’t want to sound like a conspiracy nut to her cool friends and the popular guy who might just help her get over the dream girl who broke her heart. But when a late-night party in the mall turns deadly, Penny won’t have the luxury of playing it cool. A killer is on the loose, and the dark history of Eden Hills is about to be revealed.

"Chopping Spree is a nostalgic slasher that conjures folk and coming-of-age horror features. The blood-curdling scares and betrayals will leave readers falling in line for the funerary march to wealth, trapped in the killer scene of capitalism. Fans of Fear Street and You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight won't want to miss this." —Haley Newlin, author of Take Your Turn, Teddy

"With its fast-paced story and twists, Chopping Spree is an absolute masterclass in what a novella should be. I couldn't put it down and devoured it in one sitting. If you ever fantasized about a late-night party at an empty mall, Angela Sylvaine's slasher will make you reconsider that dream." Jules V. Gachs, author of Epiphany

"Chopping Spree is equal parts a thrilling throwback to pre-2000s teen slashers and a savage exploration of modern socioeconomic themes. Bursting off the page with complex characters, shocking turns, and Angela Sylvaine's swift cinematic writing, this is one nostalgic trip to the mall you'll be glad you survived." Joey Powell, author of Squirming All the Way Up and Editor-in-Chief at Mad Axe Media

"An explosive, fast-paced slasher that stabs the cult of consumerism in the heart and twists the blade until it bleeds." —Yolanda Sfetsos, author of Suffer the Darkness

Fun, Quick read with a high 80s nostalgia quotient

Very enjoyable read! The action starts pretty early on and never lets up. Nice bite sized chapters. I loved the incorporation of the 80s music playlist, and providing an actual printed list at the back of the book was a nice extra treat. My only quibble is that a few times it felt like some characters jarringly switched motivations. I chalk that up to the short length off the book, which didn't really allow for extended character development. All in all, this was a fun read and I easily recommend if you enjoy old 80s slasher flicks, or the books of R. L. Stine and other YA horror authors.

Yes!

"Chopping Spree" by Angela Sylvaine is like stepping into a haunted time capsule where the neon glow of the 80's clashes with the stark terror of survival. The story follows Penny, a 16-year-old girl who, on her first day working at a resurrected mall, finds herself trapped in a nightmare after closing time. What starts as a regular shift quickly turns into a fight for her life as screams echo through the deserted corridors, and she realizes she's next on the list. This novella is a thrilling cocktail of horror and nostalgia, blending the ominous vibes of "Fear Street" with the relentless suspense of "The Purge." As someone who loves both horror and a good dose of 80s nostalgia, this story hit all the right notes for me. The pacing is relentless, like a synthwave track that keeps building and building until it reaches a heart-pounding crescendo. The tension is palpable, making you feel like you’re racing through the darkened mall alongside Penny, each step echoing with the fear of the unknown. And just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, Sylvaine throws in a twist that hits you like a sucker punch, leaving you reeling but ultimately satisfied. If you’re a plot-driven reader, you’ll find yourself teetering on the edge of your seat, desperately trying to guess how it will all end. And trust me, the ending is worth every spine-tingling moment. With an 80's soundtrack pulsing in the background, "Chopping Spree" is a thrilling ride that grips you from the first page and doesn’t let go until the very last twist.

Slasher through and through

If you like "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Scream," and "It Follows" you'll love Chopping Spree. This is a fast paced slasher through and through. From the moment you begin, a teen is kidnapped and you know what to expect: death, destruction, and teen attitude. The book focuses on a teenager who lost her mother, broke up with her girlfriend, and feels neglected by her father and step mother. During a night of terror, she and a few other teens are hunted by a killer in a wolf mask, before they turn the tables and start hunting him.It goes much deeper than that. There are layers to the story that offer some twists. My favorite part was the local to global ending. I love when stories give me something to think about and fear. There is a great theme of " The perils of greed" and a bit about "religious zealousness."It's a very quick read, fast paced, and action packed. If you're looking for something to hit that fun slasher spot, check it out!

Slasher!

Thank you Angela for reaching out and offering me an ARC of your newest novel! I absolutely loved it and devoured it in two days! This 80s themed slasher delivers with a surprising twist that goes off perfectly and I loved every second! There's music listed throughout which I love and there's even a playlist at the end.Not everything is as it seems at the mall where Penny just started working. Local kids have been going missing at an alarming rate and no one has any answers. The authorities want to chalk it up to them being runaways, but Penny is starting to suspect foul play. She's just starting to make new friends and reconnect with old ones after a bad breakup, but little does she know she might just be getting involved in something nefarious without even knowing it.Are you looking for a perfect slasher that you can read in one sitting? Getting ready for spooky season? Or are you a fan of the 80s and love the vibes? Then this one's for you!

A fun mall slasher

16 year old Penny works at Thredz in the Eden Hills Mall that her father owns. When someone starts some mischief killing people off Penny and her friends will need to stop the killer before disaster strikes. This is a fun 80s style mall slasher that is completely unpredictable. There is some great commentary on consumerism and greed as is appropriate in a mall. Penny makes a great final girl to rout for. If you like slashers with 80s vibes and YA protagonists than I would recommend checking this one out.
